When planning your Montana trip, you’re not going to want to miss the “Crown of the Continent,” or Glacier National Park. Glacier is becoming more and more popular each year, making it more difficult to get that perfect hotel. There’s much more to consider when booking accommodations!
Here’s what you should keep in mind when you are looking for places to stay near Glacier National Park.
Book a year in advance
If you have your heart set on staying at a certain lodge, cabin, or hotel, the best idea is to book at least a year in advance if you can. It’s not uncommon for places to fill up within the park super quickly, which means that you need to be on top of it when it comes to bookings. Also keep in mind that you are unlikely to be able to book national park lodges on popular booking sites, so you will have to visit web pages directly in order to get your name in for the place that you want to stay.
East side versus west side
Glacier has two main sides which offer two very different experiences. If you are planning on doing some more difficult hikes, then you are likely going to want to head over to the east side of the park. It’s also typically not as busy as the west side. However, it is a bit of a drive from the main airport and you will need to consider this when you choose accommodations for your trip. The west side offers more activities and is typically more family-friendly. If you are planning on adding rafting, horseback riding, or anything else on the itinerary, then this is likely where you will want to stay.
If you have any sort of mobility issues, then you will need to take a look at some of the options that are available that are wheelchair accessible. Some of the hotels and lodges were made a long time ago, so they don’t necessarily have rooms and entrances in mind for those who might struggle with mobility problems. You might need to do some research on review sites to determine whether or not that type of accommodation will work for you and your specific needs.
Look to nearby towns
Spots right next to the park can fill up fast, so don’t be surprised if you have to look to some of the nearby towns such as Kalispell or Whitefish in order to find a hotel that’s free later in the season. They can also offer you a bunch more options when it comes to child and pet-friendly hotels than you are likely to find in Glacier or right outside of it. Some of these towns are such a short drive from the park, as well.
Finding a hotel near Glacier National Park can be a bit more challenging than in some other locations, which is why going into it with some knowledge can help a lot when you go to book your trip.
